In a room in a military hospital near Santander, a wounded man is guarded overnight by a young Nationalist soldier. The prisoner reveals himself as Rafael Rodríguez Rapún, a former member of Federico García Lorca’s student theatre troupe, La Barraca. As it becomes clear that he is to face a firing squad at dawn, Rafael confesses his relationship with Lorca to his captor, and entrusts him with a mission to rescue some hidden manuscripts in order to preserve them for future generations.

The Dark Stone (La piedra oscura) was presented on the London stage in 2015 as part of the 3rd Festival of Spanish Theatre in London (Festelón), at the Courtyard Theatre in Hoxton. Performed in Spanish with surtitles in English, translated by Kathryn Phillips-Miles and Simon Deefholts.
