This album celebrates the 800th anniversary of the birth of Alfonso the Wise, King of Castile and León. Although Alfonso reputedly had limited skills at diplomacy and warfare, he developed a lover of poetry and music at an early age, and later commissioned the Cantigas de Santa María, a collection of 100 songs in praise of the Virgin Mary, a selection of which are presented here by Carles Magraner and the Capella de Ministrers.
