3rd Festival of Spanish Theatre in London, 2015
In a room in a military hospital near Santander, a wounded man is guarded overnight by a young Nationalist soldier. The prisoner reveals himself as Rafael Rodríguez Rapún, a former member of Federico García Lorca’s student theatre troupe, La Barraca. As it becomes clear that he is to face a firing squad at dawn, Rafael confesses his relationship with Lorca to his captor, and entrusts him with a mission to rescue some hidden manuscripts in order to preserve them for future generations.
Performed in Spanish with surtitles in English, translated by Kathryn Phillips-Miles and Simon Deefholts.
